My wife appreciates the ability to send real-time updates on my condition and progress even when cell phone capabilities are sketchy. The set-up on the website took some figuring out and could be more intuitive.  Pros

Comments about Spot LLC SPOT 2 Satellite GPS Messenger: This is an excellent product, and my roommate and I had a chance to use it last weekend while doing some field work in Nevada. We had our truck stuck and ran out of food, so we activated the Spot's "Ask for Help/Spot Assist" function. Unfortunately, if you purchase the Roadside Assistance deal, it nullifies the contact list for "Ask for Help", and no message is sent to your friends and family. We ended up hiking out 15 miles and eating dandelions for food. The day after we returned home, I found a voicemail on my mobile that stated that Spot was not going to send help, which would have been impossible to receive while we were stuck. My advice is to avoid the Roadside Assistance deal unless that is your purpose in buying Spot. Pros

Comments about Spot LLC SPOT 2 Satellite GPS Messenger: I bought this device to give family and friends the peace of mind as I adventure out in the backcountry. Now they can log on to see where I am and able to send message that I am OK. There have been hikes where I have under estimated the return and cause major concern with loved ones. I am retired Coast Guard and have been on a lot of search and rescue cases. The Spot gives me the comfort of knowing that I have a device like ships on the high seas have to alert authorities if I get into trouble and need assistance. This is a must for all hikers and backcountry hikers and campers. You cannot put a price on safety. A couple of hundred dollars would be worth its weight in gold if you find yourself needing assistance for an emergency. Displaying reviews 1-4 |
