Comments about Osprey Packs Mutant 38 Backpack:

First and foremost, I purchased an Osprey pack after lots of pack research. The most important thing to me is how a company values their customer. People like us are generally hard on equipment, and sometimes things need to be repaired or replaced. I purchased an Osprey because they stand behind their product, much like Patagonia does.

Secondly, I purchased a top load pack because I like the dump and run aspect behind it. This pack is as likely to carry climbing equipment or backcountry snow equipment as it is a laptop and books. So versatility is a must, and this pack has delivered day in and day out since I first put it on. I commute on bike until the ice flies and this bag sits perfect on the back and feels just as fine with a heavy load as a light load. It is narrow, and unless you can touch your elbows together behind your back you wont lose any mobility. I haven't climbed with the pack on yet... it's november.

The two pockets on the top are plenty for me, but thats all you get besides the main compartment. Bottom line, if you need a pack that carries well, is narrow but large, and is made by a company to back their equipment then the Osprey Mutant is bueno....dinner is ready gotta go

Comments about Osprey Packs Mutant 38 Backpack:

I recently went to the New River Rendezvous and demoed this pack from the osprey vendor. I instantly fell in love with it. The pack seems very large for a 38 liter pack. I easily fit a 70 meter rope, two harnesses, twenty quick-draws two pairs of climbing shoes and more inside of it. The ice ax loops are great for holding a helmet and the haul straps make it easy to lower it on some of the more difficult approaches. This pack is also my first frame-less pack I've ever bought and aside from the fact that you have to strictly pack it with the heaviest load centered on your back, it is a very comfortable pack. I would highly recommend this pack to all of my friends.
