Black Diamond - Yvon Chouinard

 

It started with a goal to perfect the piton. In 1957 Yvon Chouinard was a young, energetic blacksmith who took a strong interest in climbing. The lack of quality equipment at that time led him to construct his own, using form and function as his guide. It wasn’t long before his innovative gear attracted a following of climbers for an adventure sport that was growing in popularity.


No longer is it just about the piton. High performance rock climbing gear remains at the core of Black Diamond but over the last five decades they have expanded their scope to include backcountry skiing, ice climbing and mountaineering. Today, Black Diamond is on the cutting edge of adventure, staffed with dedicated outdoor enthusiasts who are passionate about designing and manufacturing the best possible gear.
