Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

I got this in anticipation of some cold mountaineering, but have used it more for walking the dog in the middle of winter! It does a superior job of stopping icy wind.

My main problem with it has been the lack of adjustments in fit. It is possible to pull the nose down under your chin when it isn't quite as cold and you want to talk with people, but not very comfortable when doing so. Also, the mesh of the mouth hole tended to ice up with my breathing pretty easily. I ended up cutting it out.

Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

This balaclava is one of the best out there. It blocks wind really well. And it dries out rather quickly. It does fit true to size so you are able to see better since most balaclavas move around and make seeing difficult. I wore it to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro and it did the job!

Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

This product seems to work very well. I have worn it with another hat, but feel it would be ok as a stand alone for temps into the teens at least. I went skiing and with a second hat tied on and goggles, no part of my face or neck got cold. Temps were around 10 degrees and speeds upwards of probably 30-40 mph on the slope.

Pros: This is very light weight and has a nice fleece interior. It is very comfortable.

Cons: The mesh breathing port butts up against the nose. It is a bit of a nuiscance, but does not affect how it works. The back of the neck could be a bit longer.

Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

Why in the world did they put a rough, stiff, edging material right where it is guaranteed to rub against the bottom of your nose? It's crazy. It would probably be a decent product if it were not for that. Unfortunately you cannot change it yourself. They could not possibly have tested this product before putting it on the market.

Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

The fleece patches over the ears let me hear what is going on while the rest of my head is protected by the Windstopper fabric, NICE! Also, the Large size actually fits my head. I'm normally XL or bigger in most hats. No more pressure headaches while ascending in cold weather. It can be worn in multiple ways and hides away in the pack for emergencies.

Comments about Outdoor Research Sonic Balaclava:

Used this under extreme wind and cold conditions to climb Mount Elbrous in Russia. It was just awful: the chafing made the breathing much more difficult. Turning my head without loosing sight was also a challenge.
