Comments about Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat:

This is a great hat. Its is extremely windproof and lightweight. I wear a size larger and use it has a "head shell." Normally while winter hiking I use a light beanie or earwarmer to prevent overheating, and I can slide this right over for extra protection. Picture doesn't show drawstring and lock, but it is there and works well to keep it tight to face. I also use it to secure flaps up when not needed.

This can be a bit uncomfortable against skin but will depend on personal sensitivity.

Comments about Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat:

A nice hat for winter outside. The Windstopper material is warm and amazingly effective at blocking wind penetration. The cut of the hat give good coverage to the head, ears, and back of the neck. Your head stays warm in this hat. The cord and cordlock allow adjustment for keeping in warmth or dumping some as needed.

A couple of potential issues. Because Windstopper has fleece to the outside, blowing or falling snow will stick to the fleece and have to be dried out later. No biggy if your day ends in your house or a lodge; an annoyance (or worse) if you're camping out. Also, the hat is so effective at holding warmth that for me it has to be really cold and/or really windy or the hat is just TOO warm. Finally, the Windstopper fleece is surprisingly effective at preventing keeping out sound. Hearing your friends will be harder than you expect.

All told, a very nice hat for winter outdoors.

I've been wearing this hat for years underneath my climbing helmet. The windstopper fabric is wonderful and warm and the lack of bulkiness will help you avoid over heating while climbing. Great buy.

Comments about Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat:

This hat is very light, yet very warm. Obviously the key is keeping the wind out and this hat does just that. I took the boys for a day of sledding recently, was about 20 degrees with a 10mph wind and me and my son needed nothing but these hats to stay warm all evening. OR hit a home run here, comfy light warm, can't ask for much more.

Comments about Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat:

A great hat. I have owned another Outdoor Research hat, the Wind Warrior, for over a decade. However, my new Peruvian hat is even better than my old hat as it completely covers my ears, is much lighter, yet is very warm and windproof. I've worn it snow blowing, hiking, logging, snow shoeing, and shopping in town. It worked great no matter what I was doing.

Comments about Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat:

I power walk and run outdoors during cold months as well as snowshoe in our nearby National Park here in northern Michigan. This hat keeps the Lake Michigan winds out, keeps my ears covered and warm, and retains just enough heat to keep my head warm without sweating. Eureka! The perfect hat for outdoor aerobic activities during Winter. I'm now getting myself another one in a different color, and one for my husband.
