Comments about La Sportiva Gandalf Approach Shoe - Men's:

They look high quality. The shoe fit too small. The toe box was narrow. Im nomally a 42, but figure I will need to order a full size larger. I have my reservations if the toe box will still be to narrow...for my foot. However, the shoe looks very very nice....as it should be for the price. Should be a great approach shoe if it fits.

I took these guys up the Salathe Wall on El Cap and they're still in great shape. I also found that I can sport climb up to 10c in them (though I wouldn't recommend it).

This a second pair... I sent my first pair in for resole and decided I cannot be without them so I ordered an additional pair to use while the others are being resoled.

Buy these and you wont need your climbing shoes most of the time. They are fantastic!

Comments about La Sportiva Gandalf Approach Shoe - Men's:

                      Not your average approach shoe:
It has the build quality of a "Fine Italian Hand Made Shoe". This is a very different experience than the cheap chinese made approach shoes we all typically buy and destroy. It is my hope that they hold up as well as they seem they should (and for the $$$ I REALLY hope so).

                      Sizing:
                      I'm a 91/2- 10 street shoe
43 La Sportiva Running shoe (3 different pair to confirm this).
                      431/2 in the Ganda

the 43 I didn't even have enough laces to tie them. The 431/2 is perfect. I will be climbing long days upto 5.9-5.10. I'll report back in a month or so and let you know how they hold up.

So far, I LOVE them. pure quality and the fit can be customized with the to the toe lacing. And they just seem so well made. What a nice change for a climbing shoe!

Comments about La Sportiva Gandalf Approach Shoe - Men's:

If you can justify the price, you will love these shoes. I ran a full day test on them. First a 3 mile uphill hike and scramble on trails and granite slabs leading up to easy 5th class climbing.Once up I completed a bouldering circuit doing moves up to 5.10 on Granite. I was very surprised at how well they climbed, not sensitive like a climbing slipper but still effective. Before running back down I soloed some familiar easy climbs that involved cracks, and yes, they worked great on those to. If your into long days on moderate terrain, and only want one pair of shoes, then the Gandalf is the ticket
