Pros

  • Comfortable

  • Good Cushioning

Cons

  • Poor Traction

Best Uses

  • Mixed Terrain

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

Hiking the mixed desert terrain in SW AZ i've been using approach shoes for the last few years. These are the most comfy shoes i've had in that category and these would be the best shoes on my list if only the soles were able to grip more.

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

I love these shoes so much I just bought my second pair to ensure a backup should Scarpa change an already good thing. The traction and sensitive feel is outstanding. The only fault, if any, is arguably that the soles lack a lot of cushioning, but in return you get a tactile performance that excels on rock & trail.

Cons

Best Uses

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

I wear this shoe almost everyday. Thin profile, and climbing shoe fit (good lacing options) makes it a surprisingly excellent urban biking shoe. Grips my flat bike pedals like clue, no straps necessary. Off the bike you can do some long distance walking and play some soccer. I'd stay close to your running shoe size for fit.

I have had them for a year I hike trails almost every day and they have held up great. Good traction on rock and in muddy conditions. Good support going down hill my toes do not jam into the end of them.

    great construction, runs large

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

The shoe is well constructed and very comfortable. Lacing system enables custom fit. The shoe is a bit too roomy in the toe area, which may inhibit any scrambling/climbing. This is in contrast to another pair of scarpa shoes that I have. As a result, I would recommend sizing down at least 1/2 (US).

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

This shoe isn't quite what I expected. Sturdier than the Keen crosstrainers that I'd bought the Zen's to replace, somewhat heavier and stiffer. The original insoles are thin with little arch support. I replaced them with Superfeet insoles, which resulted in an excellent fit.

These are great, relatively lightweight, hiking/approach shoes. The sole composition is extremely grippy, the shank is stiff enough to protect from sharp edged rocks.

Excellent choice for all-round approach shoe that climbs well in dry conditions. Consider as the ONLY shoe to wear on moderate rock climbs and in the Rockies and Tetons.

Comments about Scarpa Zen Shoe - Men's:

It would be hard to find a better approach and rock climbing shoe combination for relatively easy (5.8 type) climbs. Their ability to dig in on steep bushwacks, to stick to wet rocks on creek crossings and to ascend the rock once at the cliff face is truly impressive. Immediate comfort upon putting them on and wearing them around the house, they are equally comfortable in the outdoors. I look forward to see how they hold up with time as they will be well used, but initial indictions are that this one is a winner. Thanks, Scarpa! Keep making them like this!
