Comments about Edelrid North America Jul Belay Device:

I love steel belay devices for desert climbing. Aluminum gets eaten up by every little bit of desert grit on your rope. Steel doesn't. This device also has a higher friction mode which i didn't think it would by looking at it. Simple and effective.

Comments about Edelrid North America Jul Belay Device:

While it is an eye-catcher (numerous people at the climbing gym walked up to look at it) and the single hole makes it a no-brainer to use, there were times when it was jerky when lowering a climber. This varied with the condition of the gym rope. It was very smooth lowering a heavier climber but lowering someone in the 100 pound weight range was jerky. Maybe it will smooth out with use. I'll stick with my Reverso - which is simple to use and very smooth lowering climbers.
