I have the full set of four cams and I have put them through the ringer. I rated these with 5 stars because i belive this product is the best it can be with our current technology. let me expound...

Pros:
- Will fit where other cams wont. There were manny "odd" placements that other cams just simply would not beable to fit. It's a fact. I found this to be true on my recent trip to Joshua Tree and Yosemite.
- I have these 4 cams replace the bottom 6 cams in the BD C4 lineup. The weight is trivial the two smaller sizes (for all practical purpouses) are the same as the compareable BD cams. The #1 and #2 C3's from BD overlap well with the link cams and I have had no issues with needing another in that smaller size range (I eliminated the #.3 &.4 C4). The link cams fit Black Dimond's color scheem and each of thier range terminate at the same size as thier corresponding BD C4.
- If you find the crack you are climbing to need more peices in one size, you can do it with a cam of a different size because of the tremendous over lap. For example lets say you need another peice in an inch and a quarter size. All four link cams will cover that size.
- The large range makes them great peices for pumped out emergencys or routes at your limit and anchors.

Cons:
- Price they are more expensive than other cams. That being said i belive they are well worth it, Omega Pacific is a trust worthy company and this is a quality and well made product.
- These require regular cleaning and lubercation because of all the moving parts. Altho all cams require regular matinance you can get away with out it, with Link Cams you cannot.

Other comments:
- In regards to durability and longevity only time will tell. With all the moving parts i am afraid that it may have a shorter product life.
- Having one more of the #2 size would be a great addition for long routes and anchors.
- Personally yet to take a fall on one. But one did ketch a slipped and they all have taken weight as an anchor and as a single peice.
-Omega Pacific planned the sizes very deliberatly.
It is obvious with them matching thier sizes and colors with Black Diamond. BD has one of the top cam sets on the market with thier improved C4's and thier C3's. Thier cam range beats most other companys and they are a time proven product from a quality company. Unfortunately Omega Pacific (I belive) is going to cut them right through center of thier active protection line with these 4 link cams.
I hope this was a helpfull review.

Good for a panic panic piece.

Very heavy cam, I would only take if it you feel you will need to place a "panic" piece.

Pros

  • Highly Adjustable
  • Huge Range Of Crack Sizes
  • Well Built

Cons

  • Largest Size Is 2 Inches
  • More Expensive Than Other
  • Not Made In 2

Best Uses

  • Save Weight On Alpine
  • Save Weight On Trads

Comments about Omega Pacific Link Cam:

These are more expensive than other cams but they cover a much larger range. They are faster to place as the cams will collapse to a small diameter and then fill the crack. I wish they were made in a larger than 2" size. Since a single cam covers a large range, you can get by with fewer cams. Great where cracks are flaring or very irregular. Weight wise, they are about the same as other cams. They are absolutely my go-to pro.

Comments about Omega Pacific Link Cam:

Clipping bolts at a local area, a perfect crack line inspired a gear lead, my first in a while. My partner had some gear, but not much: some larger nuts and 4 cams, 2 of which were Link Cams (red and green). This was my first experience with the Link cams and they have gone to the top of my wish list. Because I had only a few pieces I had to leapfrog placements to keep on the safe side, and the links were remarkably adaptable. Every placement felt more secure, quicker and easier to place than the standard cams. Easier to clean too. I'm giving four stars for lack of more experience with them, but my first go was five-stars for sure.

Comments about Omega Pacific Link Cam:

These are wonderful, but very pricey. I find myself a little nervous placing mine and typically use it on gear anchors. I think a gear anchor is the perfect place for this - highly adjustable and you are much more likely to retrieve it when you are done since it won't walk as part of an anchor.

This cam always goes on my rack. If I'm going where no man has gone before or at least this mortal hasn't gone...I carry this Link Cam. I've come close to falling on a lead digging for the right cam and in those fractions of a sec...I go for this cam and know it will work to make me safe.

                This is the "goto" cam

Comments about Omega Pacific Link Cam:

The two small link cams need to be placed more carefully than the larger sizes. Make sure the crack is straight sided if placing deeply.

Very Very useful to fill in your rack or double up on some pieces. The range is everything they say and better. The only down side is that they are a little heavy and don't come any bigger. A little trickier to place than the traditional Cam so practice a little before going up and you'll be alright.

Best for routes for which you don't have clear gear beta. I usually place a link cam when I'm desperate at a crux where no additional time to replace gear if one does not fit perfectly. Because of its wide range, you just need a mere guesstimate, not exact, to place perfect protection.
