I gave this to a climbing partner for his birthday. He said that this would have been a great thing for someone he was climbing with last year who had got their shirt caught in their figure 8 while rapping off the climb. They had to chew and rip their shirt out of the 8. If they had this little knife then they could have just cut it. It's a great product that doesn't have any plastic to crack while it is clipped to your harness or gear rack.

Blade can open up on a forged biner

Cons

  • Opens By Itself

    Comments about Trango Piranha Knife:

This knife seems like a good idea. I bought it, and left it on my chalk bag biner, just in case.

The problem is that the blade opens by itself. On any biner other than a full size round stock biner, the blade can open. Wire gates won't keep it closed. Non-wire gates that are not fully round and large won't keep it closed. It stays closed on a big Petzl Attache biner, but won't stay closed on other types. Having a knife clipped to my harness that randomly comes open is not good, and I don't like having to clip it on a big biner, that I'm typically only using for belaying.

      Comments about Trango Piranha Knife:

This knife is really small, probably the size of my whole thumb. But I can't see myself without it if I went climbing outdoors, just seems like a necessity to me.

It stays locked if on a normal biner (not one of those really light weight ones).

        Comments about Trango Piranha Knife:

Good little knife. Safe, since when on a biner, it can't open and locks when open. Razor sharp, ultra light, fits anywhere and can be opened with one hand (smoothly). Only con is that the grip is not great when cutting tough material.

This is the perfect knife to put on your chalk bag loop and forget about it. It's so compact and light. When you get to the belay and need to cut away old slings or need to cut up the rope for emergency rap anchors you'll be glad you have it. (if you remember it's there)

                Comments about Trango Piranha Knife:

I wanted a light knife with a serrated blade, and a caribiner clip hole (I love that I don't have to worry about the blade flipping open.).

If you are counting ounces, this is the lightest knife with a serrated blade that I have seen.
