Comments about Mammut Realization Harness Shorts - Men's:

Have been sport climbing at the Red Rocks, Alabama Hills and the Owens Gorge with these. They really need some type of webbing/buckle at the waist to stay above the hips. Mine fit great, but you must use the tie in knot to keep the waist belt up where it should be. Four gear loops are needed for trad climbing unless you carry a old school chest sling. I can and will with these, look forward to long grade 4/5 routes this summer. Mammut is a great company, and I am sure the second generation of these shorts will address the few shortcomings of the design. Will not be going back to a standard harness and going back to a chest sling for gear is not a big deal for trad climbing.

Comments about Mammut Realization Harness Shorts - Men's:

I have climbed both lead and top-rope in this harness for a couple months now indoors and out. I love the lack of buckles. It really is just a harness underneath a pair of shorts. The shorts have a liner sewn into the space between the leg loops. This part I'm not a huge fan of, it's not stretchy and it puts some pressure on the boys. I might cut it out. That brings me to my main gripe; Lack of stretch material. Stretch material would have been great to use in the liner and in the outer shorts material, but no. There is a stretch panel in the rear below the waist which is ok, but not great. That being said, having the shorts over the harness is great because it keeps the leg loops from riding up and pinching me where I don't want pinched. So there is a little pressure from the lack of stretch, but you don't get the problem associated with harness over the shorts: riding up to much and pinching. The cut of the shorts does allow freedom of movement and high step/heel hook moves, but there would be even more freedom with stretch! Anyways, I do like climbing in them they make you feel free and un-harnessed but still harnessed enough that you feel safe. They are a cool idea. The one other fit issue is my fault, I'm a little fat around the mid-section, and I have a 35 inch waist which is the max size allowed for a size Large (the biggest version) and being a little flabby means the waist cuts into my belly a little. If I tuck my shirt into the front it makes that problem go away. I also would have liked the leg loops to be a little wider for my 200lb weight, so I can't say this is as supportive as my Old Petzl Sama or my new Arcteryx R275LT. Being shorts with only two gear loops and not a lot of front clip in/tie in options it's only good for warm sport climbing. Overall fun to wear, no ride up pinch problem, and light weight and comfortable in some ways, yet uncomfortable in others. I like them, and they do seem pricey but it makes sense since you are buying a harness and shorts. Some room for improvement.
