For multi-pitch climbs, the rope hook performs well in rope management. it is simple and easy to lay lap coils in the open hook to keep ropes hanging clean and tangle-free. Metolius advertises that one can simply close the hook and have tangle-free rope storage which is not true. On the descent trail the lap coils easily slip out of the hook resulting in a tangled mess. Overall, the rope hook is good for managing ropes while on the climb, but lacks the security of a proper mountaineer's coil or rope bag.
