As a spelunker I do a lot of rappelling. I have different versions of Figure 8's and a mini rack. When doing long rappels the Figure 8's heat up too much and the mini rack is always a guess as to how many cross bars to use for the right descent speed and for the load I carry in my pack. The This descender has no guess work and with the hands free self arrest feature it in my opinion is safer for beginner to expert cavers. The one drawback is that beginners really need to have someone there to double check the set up before backing over the edge.
