Comments about Black Diamond Epic 35 Backpack:

I found the new swiveling system on this pack extremely uncomfortable. It feels like you have a rock stuck behind your back.

It does keep the load up and on your hips nicely, off your shoulders, but it concentrates all the load in a relatively small spot in your lower lumbar area. It's even worse when you bend over as if climbing up alpine terrain. The hard plastic swivel is near the top of the lumbar pad and itself has very little padding around it. It creates a hard, sharp lump that digs into your spine.

I realize this is a new design and may have some glitches, but I find it hard to believe something could feel so wrong straight out of the box. The swivel system and associated bits make this pack heavier than it might be. It seems OK for walking along upright carrying a relatively heavy load, but not to actually climb in.

Otherwise it seems a nicely made pack, quite simple, good material, good axe attachments, good hipbelt. The lid could be improved, a little big and floppy. In a size Large the 35 seems more like 42+ liters.
